Product Description
Heating and ventilation systems cause a problem during the cold season that is regularly underestimated in offices, public authorities, and public facilities: They drastically dry out the room air. In poorly humidified offices, the relative humidity often drops to 20 to 30 percent in winter – far below the health-recommended 40 to 60 percent. Dried mucous membranes, increased risk of infection, decreasing concentration, and rising absenteeism are the result. The Evaporative humidifier B 400 from TROTEC solves this problem for rooms up to 360 m² or 900 m³.
The crucial factor here is the operating mode: With a power consumption of only 53 watts, the B 400 is designed for continuous operation without incurring significant running costs. The integrated hygrostat control regulates operation fully automatically – the device humidifies the room up to the set target value and then switches itself off automatically. Thus, neither too little nor too much humidification occurs, without anyone having to manually correct the settings.
For continuous commercial use, the B 400 offers an optional fixed water connection: If the device is connected to the mains water supply, manual refilling of the 29-liter water tank is completely eliminated. The device operates until someone turns it off – without personnel effort, without interruptions. The rotating evaporative fleece not only humidifies the air but also washes it, thereby improving air quality.
What is the Evaporative humidifier B 400 suitable for?
The B 400 is the right choice wherever large indoor areas need to be permanently and automatically humidified: open-plan offices, meeting rooms, public authority corridors, waiting areas in doctor’s offices and hospitals, common rooms in nursing homes, daycare centers, museums, and archive areas with sensitive exhibits. Thanks to the transport castors, the device can be repositioned if required — for permanent use, it stands firmly and operates autonomously. The robust construction made of powder-coated steel sheet is designed for continuous commercial operation.
Open-plan offices and office spaces: Protecting employee health and concentration
In a typical open-plan office with heating and air conditioning, the room air dries out particularly quickly. The consequences quickly become apparent: irritated eyes and pharyngeal mucous membranes, more frequent colds, fatigue, and loss of concentration. The B 400 maintains the relative humidity at the set target value — 40 to 60 percent is recommended — thereby creating the physiological basis for performance and immune defense.
Well-humidified respiratory mucous membranes clean the inhaled air more efficiently and better keep viruses and bacteria at bay. At the same time, sufficient humidity changes the salt concentration in exhaled aerosols, significantly reducing their infectious power — even before they can be inhaled by another person. For offices with higher foot traffic, this is a measurable protective factor. The noiseless operation from 29 dB(A) disturbs neither meetings nor concentrated work.
Public facilities and risk groups: Humidity as infection protection
In daycare centers, nursing homes, doctor’s offices, waiting areas, and public buildings, people regularly stay whose immune systems are particularly dependent on optimal air conditions. The B 400 is designed precisely for these environments: an evaporation performance of up to 60 liters per day is sufficient to continuously maintain even heavily frequented areas of 100, 150, or up to 360 m² within the healthy range.
In museum and archive areas, optimal humidity has another advantage: air that is too dry damages wood, paper, parchment, paintings, and other organic materials through desiccation and cracking. The B 400 prevents exhibits and historical documents just as reliably as it improves the room air for visitors and staff – with a single device that operates fully automatically.
Commercial continuous operation: Fixed water connection and 53 watts for cost-effective year-round use
The decisive difference between a device for occasional home use and a real commercial humidifier lies in the operating concept. The B 400 is designed for continuous operation — on two levels. Firstly, with 53 watts, it consumes so little power that continuous operation can be economically justified without problems: At an electricity price of 30 cents per kilowatt-hour, monthly operating energy costs for a room up to 360 m² amount to approximately 11 euros. Secondly, with the optional fixed water connection, the only regular manual action that the device would require is eliminated. The device is set once – and runs.
The adjustable outlet grille and the supplied wall spacer ensure that the humidified air circulates optimally in the room and does not condense on the nearest wall. The air volume flow of up to 800 m³/h distributes the humidity evenly throughout the entire room. The fill-level indicator with status light signals in good time when the water tank needs refilling without a fixed water connection.
Frequently asked questions about the TROTEC B 400
What is the difference between an evaporative humidifier, a steam humidifier, and an ultrasonic humidifier?
In an evaporative humidifier, water is passed through a rotating fleece and absorbed by the passing air as invisible water vapor – similar to how laundry dries. The decisive advantage: The air naturally absorbs only as much water as it can at the current temperature. Over-humidification is physically not possible. Steam humidifiers electrically heat water until it evaporates – this costs significantly more power (often 300 to 600 watts for comparable performance) and can introduce lime as fine white dust into the room. Ultrasonic humidifiers atomize water into visible mist, which can lead to lime deposits (white dust) on furniture when using tap water and can distribute germs if maintenance is insufficient. The B 400 with its evaporative fleece avoids all three disadvantages.
What does hygrostat control mean – and why is it important for office operation?
The built-in hygrostat permanently measures the relative humidity in the room and compares it with the set target value. If the target value is reached, the device switches off automatically – and only restarts when the humidity falls below the setpoint. This has two practical consequences: Firstly, no one has to manually regulate or monitor the device. Secondly, it only runs when it is actually needed – which further reduces the already low energy consumption of 53 watts.
What room area can the B 400 humidify – is it sufficient for 150 m²?
The B 400 is designed for rooms up to 360 m² or 900 m³. A room of 150 m² is therefore well within the performance limit – with a room height of 3 m, this corresponds to a room volume of 450 m³, which is less than half of the maximum capacity. In such a room, the device operates at a lower fan speed and, accordingly, even quieter operating noise. The specified effective area of 360 m² applies at the maximum evaporation performance of 60 liters per 24 hours under standard conditions; in very dry rooms or at low outdoor temperatures, the effective performance can vary slightly.
How does the fixed water connection work – and who needs it?
The optional fixed water connection connects the B 400 directly to the mains water supply. The 29-liter water tank is refilled automatically as soon as the level drops – without anyone having to intervene. This is particularly relevant for locations where the device runs without anyone regularly being nearby (corridors, entrance areas, server rooms), for businesses with multi-shift operation, or for holiday periods and weekends. Anyone who operates the device only during office hours and with manual control can manage with the 29-liter tank — with an evaporation performance of 60 l/24h, the tank must be refilled once daily at full load.
How is the evaporative fleece cleaned and how long does it last?
The rotating evaporative fleece simultaneously filters dust and suspended particles from the room air during humidification — it is therefore also an air washing element. Lime from tap water settles in the fleece over time and reduces the evaporation performance. TROTEC recommends regular cleaning according to the operating manual; replacement fleeces are available as Accessories. The cleaning intervals depend on the local water hardness – in hard water, the fleece should be checked more frequently than in soft water. As a guideline: In regions with medium water hardness, a test cleaning every four to eight weeks is sufficient.
What humidity is optimal in the office – and when is the air too humid?
Medically recommended are 40 to 60 percent relative humidity as a comfort range for respiratory tracts and mucous membranes. Below 40 percent, mucous membranes dry out, germs spread more easily, and wood and other organic materials are damaged. Above 60 percent, the risk of mold formation on walls and furniture increases, especially on cooler surfaces. The hygrostat of the B 400 can be set to any target value in this range. Since the evaporation process is physically self-limiting – air no longer absorbs water when it is saturated — the device cannot humidify the room beyond the physical saturation point.
